Mumbai: Chief Labour commissioner (CLC) has convened a meeting of the heads of all the four state-run general insurers and the national reinsurer, GIC re in New Delhi on Monday (March 27).

Talking to Bizz Buzz, Trilok Singh, convenor, JFTU (NZ), said, “A delegation of JFTU comprising myself, Rajiv Ratan Sharma and Satish Jindal, met CLC in his office on March 21, at Dwarka in New Delhi, and on the persuasion of JFTU, he issued a notice to all five CMDs of public sector general insurance companies (PSGICs) and Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services (DFS) and has fixed a conciliation meeting on March 27 in his office in Delhi.”

He further informed that he had issued a letter to Joint Secretary DFS on March 1 and has advised the joint secretary to submit his comments after receiving the representation from unions and associations that GIPSA management has submitted only their distorted view as minutes of the meeting held at OSTC Faridabad on March 2, without giving any cognizance to the suggestions given by the trade unions and associations.

JFTU, NZ team recently met Labour Minister and had placed the view point of unions and associations before him and sought his intervention.

According to Singh, “We further learnt that under the pressure of some DFS officials, the GIPSA management is trying to unilaterally impose KPI/restructuring, closure and merger of offices from April 01, and to forcefully transfer the employees and officers in RO and HO pool.”

JFTU had staged a dharna programme throughout the country on March 23, to intensify its campaign of meeting Parliament members, media and other prominent political personalities of all political parties and to follow our justified demands with them and to seek their intervention, he said.

After the intervention of JFTU, PSGICS comes under strategic sector and the government wants to strengthen the same but regret to state that some officials of DFS are exploiting the PSGICS and are interfering at micro level, violating the directions of the PM and the government.
